Editor role bypass Approval with Publish At date

If an editor creates a page and sets a Publish At date then all they need to do is save the page and it will get published at that date/time with no need to send for approval.

Is this a bug/oversight/intended functionality?  Is there anyway to stop this as we have a couple of editors which we want to to be able to set publish dates but need to approve their pages first?

I'd say that's a probably an oversight, an edge-case that wasn't really thought of :P

Surely this isn't an edge case.  Is it not a common task for an editor to want to put a live date on a page?  Or are the majority of users just using immediate publish or aren't using the workflow?

I take it there is no easy work around for this?

The only way you could "get around" it is to have a notification subscription on the Save action.

Although I can't speak for the majority of users I can say that I've never had a client bring this to my attention, in all the sites I've worked on.
