I'm using umbraco 4.0.4.2. When I try to publish a document it lasts too long(30-40 seconds for each node).
It'g getting even worse when I publish a document that has children documents , for instance: publishing a document with 18 sub-documents takes 15-20 minuts(!!!).
It's almost impossible to go on with umbraco like this and I really hop that someone can help me...
Is you SQL server on another machine and in a different location than you webserver? What's the ping time from the webserver to the SQL server? That could be the problem (because of many many many queries for a single publish).
When did it start happening? What changed? Did you install any new modules? Can you do a test upgrade to a new version of Umbraco and see if that helps?

The SQL is on the same server, the ping time is<1ms
When did it start happening? What changed? Did you install any new modules? Can you do a test upgrade to a new version of Umbraco and see if that helps?
How many nodes (pages) does your site have?
Have you installed any packages recently or created any event handlers that fire when a page is published?
