Information on Umbraco

I have been investingating ASP.net CMS systems and found the Umbraco site. Up to now, I have mainly been considering DotNetNuke, but I am drawn to Umbraco because it seems to follow ASP.net conventions better and to be simpler and faster in many respects. Still, I have some questions about its overall functionality. In particular does Umbraco:

1. have a way to categorise or tag content so that content may be placed in multiple categories and sorted and displayed accordingly

2. have a way to easily backup the CMS installation

3. have a flexible, XHTML-compliant navigation system

4. have an extension to create an opt-in newsletter with multiple subscription categories

5. have an easy-to-use shopping cart application which integrates well with PayPal

6. have an events calendar with multiple display options

7. have an easy way to integrate third-party ASP.net controls

8. have a way to run multiple websites with different domain names off of a single install

Hi visioncraft,

welcome to umbraco. Some answers to your questions:

1/ umbraco has standard support for tagging content, there's a built-in datatype 'Tags' which does exactly what you need. In addition, this datatype comes with a bunch of xslt extensions which you can use from your xslt files to list/display/categorize/sort content based on your own requirements.

2/ backup is as easy as creating a db and fileserver backup. No strings attached. Can be easily restored. In fact, this is a strategy often used for deployment of sites from dev -> staging -> live environment.

3/ umbraco = flexibility. Navigation systems may not be available oob, as those comes in a zillion flavors, just build your own!

4/ currently no esp integration extension available, altho some are working on it

5/ not available oob, but have a look at commerce4umbraco (open source) or ucommerce (free dev license)

6/ check the project section, you may find some interesting event calendar projects

7/ integration of 3rd party controls is a no brainer (directly on templates - asp.net masterpages support - or through macro's and user controls)

8/ available oob.

I haven't really given examples or shown how to configure anything, but do ask us in more detail if you need some help.
