I have a multilangual site where different cultures are identified by different subsites, the
Dutch site is identified by http://nl.somesite.com, the english by http://en.somesite.com,
etc.
All my users enter the website via http://www.somesite.com where a default culture is selected
based on the users ip-adress. I want the website to remember what language preference a user has, so if a user on the dutch website indicates he wants english as his prefered culture, the website
should remember that using cookies. My problem is that whenever the system stores a cookie on http://nl.somesite.com the cookie gets stored for that site and not for http://www.somesite.com, which is where I would read the cookie.
Microsoft is telling that "somesite.com" should work als for all subdomains, but I once had an issue that it only worked when using a leading dot ".somesite.com"
EDIT: I just see that my thoughts about the leading dot are confirmed in the very bottom of the msdn page (in the community feedback)
Multilangual sites & cookies
Hi all,

thanks for any reply, Stephan
Cookies accross subdomains are a problem if you use the defaults, but it is possible to set a domain property on the cookie
