Umbraco 6 User control macro

I have added a user control and dll into my Umbraco 6 installation but when I press a button that is linked to an event handler for the user control I get the following script error:

usercontrol WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions is not defined

Any help greatly appreciated.

Are you running the site as MVC or Webforms?
