RSS feed for Umbraco v.3 - how to or use package

A customer of mine using Umbraco 3 wants an RSS feed for their news. I've never done this before and tried to download the package I found in the repository. Resulted in 404 error and I alerted the company where the server is placed. They could not explain this to me and downloaded the package directly to the server. I didn't see any instructions that may have followed this and all I can find on the server now is a dll-file in the bin folder. What am I supposed to do with this? In other words: how do you go about creating RSS feeds in version 3?

I originally downloaded a v3.x rss feed package from this site, hope this may help you.

    Cheers,

I've checked the site now. Found the 3 files mentioned for upgrading. Feeling a bit stupid I'm very unsure of how I proceed...

If possible, remove the existing package from the site and start using the package you can download from the site, don't think you need to upgrade as those packages will probably be totally different (don't think the v3.x package is in the repo, altho might be wrong on that)

    Cheers,

    /Dirk

I think maybe I haven't described my situation well enough. Since normal package install didn't work on this umbraco installation (a matter of too tight security I'm sure), a person in the company that owns the server downloaded the package from Umbraco v.3 repository directly on the server.

I have only FTP access to the server in question. I've found the 2 files in bin, 1 file in umbraco/plugins/rss and finally there's an RunWizard.ascx in the umbraco/usercontrols folder. Maybe this last file should have been run? But how?

And I still haven't found any description of how I actually implement RSS feeds with this package. I know I'm a bit slow, be forgiving.

Yes, I'm a bit slow. Found the RSS feed item in Settings Section now. It works ok, but I need more fields than the wizard will give me and I've been asked to put this into a template that will work for several nodes.

I wonder if the version 4 xslt-based RSS package can be altered to work on version 3?
There are a couple of references in the xslt that are not found in version 3, such as umbraco library function to alter mime type and a namespace declaration for content. Minor adjustments required I'm sure, but which?

Solved. I found a way to apply rss xslt from version 4. Much based on http://our.umbraco.org/forum/developers/xslt/1716-xslt-rss-feed-and-umbraco-v4
