This sounds exactly like the built-in Tag datatype. You begin typing, and an autocomplete list pops up. If you can't find a match to click on, keep typing and press enter, and it will add what you typed to the list of possible tags for the next time.
Custom Data Type Dropdown with a Text Box
Does anyone have any ideas on making a Custom Data Type that is a dropdown that also has a text box with it?
The use case would be that a person creating content would use the text box if the item was not listed in the drop down.
Bonus: The item typed would also update the drop-down list.
Any input would be helpful!
