Thanks for this, new to all this, not entirely sure how NuGet works or if it will help us. We run umbraco using the online CMS not yet via Visual Studio so not sure this will help us?
actually dont think i understood nuget properly , i thought it was a tool that would help with the update on the CMS where it states if you update with Nuget its easier to do.

yeah thats the steps i followed and upgraded directly from 7.1 to 7.8. But it failed. Never got to see the Finalize steps when i did it as it just give me a white screen with that error.

does anyone know how we install NuGet to our current CMS? is it added as a package to help with the upgrade? Thanks :-)

Nuget can help upgrade Umbraco, but it works only via Visual Studio

You can upgrade Umbraco manually - have a look - https://our.umbraco.org/documentation/getting-started/setup/upgrading/general#manually-upgrading-from-a-zip-file-package
