Dropping the lamp - going into the net

Hi, I am used to LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) and using MODx CMS.

But I would like to take Umbraco for a ride so my question is:

When I need speed (on a small site) should I use SQL Server 2008 instead of MySQL or doesn't that matter.

I was thinking of doing this in a small scale using unoeuro.com or surftown.dk for hosting my web hotel.

    Hi Erik

If it's a small site I don't really think it matters. I have a install on unoeuro running a mysql and never have had problems.

Please note that some packages may not work on MySql.

    /Jan

@erik - your front end website content is cached in memory so the database choice mainly affects the performance of the back office.

I'm not sure if there is a simple metric to determine whether mySQL or SQL server is more performant.

Excellent - coming from MODx to Umbraco you shouldn't have too much of a difficulty here.  I have utilized both CMS and Umbraco is definitely the best OS .NET platform here.  You should be in good shape utilizing either DB - then again like  Jan said - some packages might not work with MySQL.
