backend slow all of a sudden

We've been running Umbraco 4.6.1 on a staging server Windows 2008 - IIS7/MSSQL 2008 for a couple of weeks now and everything has been running smoothly.

This morning, however, when we log into the backend to open a page for editing it is taking over a minute to load.

Is there anyway to track down what is causing the problem?

What did you try/do to fix this?

It happened so long ago I don't remember what caused the problem - I'm guessing it was network related, thus slowing down the connection to the database.

Have you got any virus scanners running on the server? Some of them have been known to cause problems..

I'm not having any problems with this anymore - it happened 5 months ago.  I'd completely forgotten about it until I got a reply to this post.

I think AVG might have been blocking something for me. Switched to Avast and seemed to be working fine.

Yea you have to disable the link scanner with AVG, otherwise it slows down to a snails pace.
