When I am in edit mode updating, for example Document types, after I save, the right hand side area where you make the changes shrinks, so you get horizontal scroll bars.
Resizing the browser window resets this, untill you save again?
I do have a few packages installed, so I guess it could be one of them, but is this a known issue?
What browser did you use? And what browser are you using marioc? I think there are no issues with it if you're using Chrome. But if using Firefox or IE the styling sometimes acts a bit weird in my experience.

I have a fresh install of Umbraco 4.7.1

It looks like it was the tab icons package.
Once I uninstalled it, the issue went away.
I have the same. And if I click on next Tab the size of window is correct.
