During the installation process did you then choose a starter kit? If so, which one did you choose?

Can you perhaps provide at screendump of the options you have available to you in the backoffice?

Sorry for the late reply - I've installed the same starter kit and I do also get the error when trying to publish the node. I think it's somehow related to the medias. If I remove the medias I can publish the node without getting the yellow screen.

Not sure what is going on there though - this should perhaps be reported as a bug on http://issues.umbraco.org/issues/U4 since this of course should not happen.

To upgrade umbraco from 4.8 to 4.9 the best way is to go to this link here : http://umbraco.codeplex.com/releases/view/94118 and locate section "Upgrading from 4.8.x to 4.9.0". The section should point you in the right direction.
