    1. Go to the Developer section.
    2. Expand the data types folder
    3. Click on "Richtext editor"
    4. Check the box. (see below).

AFAIK, the built in Richtext editor that Umbraco doesn't check the spelling as you type. You have to press the button in the toolbar to make it check the spelling, sorry!

    Andrew:

The bottom line is that Umbraco HQ has ignored the spell checker problems since way back in V3.  There have been various hack type fixes that individuals have come up with, but as they are not part of Umbraco, they break with many updates and have to be "re hacked".

I have been hyper critical of much of this project as of late due to issues just like thist that are simply ignored by those who could easily fix them. This entire project is mismanaged and riddled with similar issues. Don't hold your breath for a fix, as it is not likely going to happen. Instead you will get some excuse that "umbraco is not a word processor". The search function of this forum outright sucks, but using google, you will find dozens of posts on the Spell Checker subject... It is just not going to get fixed.

The Google spellchecker service this relies on (https://www.google.com/tbproxy/spellmay have been turned off for good.

An alternative is the HunSpellChecker plugin
