    Upgrading 3.06 to 4.021 fails

When I get to the step where the installer verifies the permissions I get a message that the permissions are not ok. Strange since I've given full access to all subfolders. When clicking the link to " read the text version" an exception error is shown.

Any help / hints would be lovely.

Well, of course, there's always the 'upgrade to 4.0 and then 4.0.1 and then 4.0.2' procedure you might follow. And, from experience with the 'defaultToLiveEditing' field, put the umbraco config version to "" in the web.config and THEN try the upgrade. Though there shouldn't be an error in any event.

Let us know if this makes any difference.

    cheers,
    doug.

    Hi Doug,

I remembered setting the config version to "" but ... nevertheless I ended up with no column. I then followed Thomas H's suggestion and ran the upgradescript manually.

After this I got passed the installation and the site could be published and seemed to work. But:

    - upgrading RTE to Tiny 3 as Umbraco suggested broke the datatype (cant access it now - gets exception)
    - some parts of the site cant be published .. getting exception errors. loads

So eventually I had to roll back to Umb 3.04

I just tried again. Upgraded from 3.06 to 4.02.1 without any problems but one (section tray icons). Strange. I fixed that following Thomas Höhler blog post on that topic.
