In this forum, em is defined in the stylesheet as
em{color: #332e2e; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold;}
As EM is added to text using the italic I button, I think that the style should be more like
em{color: #332e2e; font-style: italic; font-weight: normal;}
As currently the buttons seem to do the same thing, although they do display correctly in the editor
