I'm not sure if I can provide you with the correct answer for this question - But it would help a lot to now the exact version of Umbraco that you're using since this can perhaps be due to some bugs in the particular version of Umbraco 6 that you're using for instance.
Also have you checked the log file in /App_Data/Logs to see if this provides more details about this issue? You should for anything marked with "ERROR".
No Document with ID exists
