When I run ?umbDebugShowTrace=true I get this error message:
Master template is the same as the current template. It would cause an endless loop! Make sure that the current template ''Template with id: '-1' has another Master Template than itself. You can change this in the template editor under 'Settings'
Can anyone spell it out better for me here? I understand that I've messed up my templates in someway, but how?

I don't think it's something to worry about. Have a look at this issue: http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-749.
