It would be a good idea to install one of the starter kits and go from there. There are loads of tutorials about for getting started with the starter kits.
Yea try a starter kit and see how the backend of Umbraco is working, then look at how the code is working. Take a look at MVC and surface controller (If you are a coder) :). Charlie. Lots of people on here will be able to help.
