Setting custom start content - cannot create children

I wanted to make sure I am not being a total muppet before I report a bug for this.
Basically I have a section with some sub pages
Information
Article 1
Article 2
etc..
If I create a user which has "Start Node in Content" set to "Information" all I can see is the article child pages, not the node itself. Is there any way to get this to show up? I want the user to see the parent page to change settings on it and also be able to create child content. In version 6 you could definitely see the chosen node.
What exact version of Umbraco 7 are you currently using? It does indeed seem like a bug but if you're running a version lower than 7.1.8 then it might be an idea trying to do an upgrade if possible before reporting this as a bug (If it's already fixed).

Thanks Jan - I am using 7.1.6.
I set up a new blank project with 7.1.8 and it does indeed seem to be fixed - I will upgrade my installation and see if that fixes it.
