Looking for high-level help on an Umbraco website

Hi, I'm hoping someone here might be willing to give me a little advice on how to proceed with an unfortunate situation. My non-profit organization lost the main developer on an Umbraco project before it went live or had full functionality, and I'm a little out of my depth on it. I've had success so far working with Umbraco, but I've done nothing more in-depth than creating macros. We're planning to hire someone to finish the backend work, but we need help figuring out what exactly needs to be done by a contractor, vs what I can do in a short time frame with my limited experience. Cost is a concern.

The big pieces we're missing are user groups, a custom event calendar/registration system, and integration with some web APIs. There's also no unit testing for the project, and I'm not sure how big of a concern that is.

Thanks for reading! Any input is very much appreciated.
