how make a field to have unique value in umbraco contour form

I have a form in Umbraco Contour which has fields for Email Address and Reference as well as other fields. The combination of Email and Reference should be unique in the database so I would like to display an error message to user if they enter same Email and Reference which already exists.

Please let me know how I can achieve this.
