Yes, the older packages have not been updated for ages, so I do not trust them in terms of Umbraco 8 compatibility or future scalability.

I am tempted to resolve the situation by creating a reusable Forum solution based upon the Umbraco Membership foundation.

Great work Huw, I just managed to get it running locally and tested couple of items and what I see so far is working.

Just couple of feedback from initial view. You seem to be missing master.cshtml file When initially I have set this up I didn't have smtp configured and there were no errors to indicate something went wrong or no current way to request an email to be resent/forgot password.

Are you planning to add further features to this package?

Master.cshtml ref is meant to be replaced with whatever the master template for your site is.

I am working on a search at the moment and will then probably look at moving the posts into a custom table rather than using umbraco content. Jus a little busy at work currently.

I'll take a look later, I was making some changes to my test site last week so could have broken something :)

I manually approved your registration. There was an issue with my mail settings so the email didn't get sent.

I should probably add a resend email option :)

I should mention that the version on my test site has the search and paging which is not in the package currently available. I should hopefully be releasing the update at the weekend all being well.

it seems like the package uses the standard SMTP settings from the web.config.

Have you changed the config so that it is valid?

If you're working locally you can use Smtp4Dev to test.

The email was sent successfully and according to my mail server logs it was delivered ok so you may want to check any spam/junk folders you have.

Email is setup correctly and the email was sent and delivered by the mail server
