    Documentation

Hello I set up my site using V7 a number of years ago and it's been working just fine. Now I need to make some changes and want to look over the documentation before I proceed. Every time I search for a topic, it throws me into V8 documentation. Changing the drop down to V7 doesn't seem to change anything. Where can I browse V7 docs? Thanks Jon

    Hi Jon

The UI is a little misleading, the dropdown, is only for filtering the search 'by version'

When you are on an action documentation page, if there are different versions of that page available then there will be a box on the right hand side, listing the versions available, clicking on those links will reload the page for the specific version.

eg for this information on Sections, this is the 'current V8' version:

    https://our.umbraco.com/Documentation/Getting-Started/Backoffice/Sections/

but clicking on the link on the right leads you to V7:

    https://our.umbraco.com/Documentation/Getting-Started/Backoffice/Sections/index-v7

Not all documentation has been written for V8... so if there is no version box on the right, it's more likely that the page refers to V7.

There is some useful info here about migrating from V7 to V8

    https://our.umbraco.com/Documentation/Getting-Started/Setup/Upgrading/migrating-to-v8

And there is a really handy article on Skrift by Callum Whyte outlining some of the major changes and gotchas to look out for between the versions:

    regards

    marc
