I'm having problems understanding the best way to upload PDF's to my site. I have read all the articles about using Media Picker and/or File uploads, but neither seem to do what I want.
1) My users (Content editors) wish to attach multiple pdfs to content directly, not via the Media upload section.
2) The uploaded file must be protected from non-authorised users accessing the files directly via the file URL.
So I started with Media Protect to protect the files. But this doesn't work with files added to content with the FileUpload data type, since these files do not appear in the Media section.
So I looked at using the Media Picker...But this doesn't allow non image files to be uploaded via the property editor.
I've searched for other Media Pickers such as DAMP, but can't find anything that is compatible with V7 that does the job.
There is now an 'Only Images' Checkbox on the media picker, which if unticked should allow editors to upload pdfs, at the point of picking them via the media picker.
However there was a bug introduced in 7.4.1/7.4.2 where this was forced to only allow images to be picked regardless of the setting.

This is fixed in 7.4.3 and you can pick pdf's again! however there is a further issue where the 'picked' pdf doesn't get an appropriate thumbnail, but it can be picked!
MediaProtect package is the only 'off the shelf' way I can think of to protect the request when made directly to the media item.
I just upgraded from 7.4.1 to 7.4.3 and I still the same error message when I pick a pdf file to upload. Please attached screenshot.
What am I doing wrong?
Umbraco 7 Media Picker - PDF upload
Hi,
I'm having problems understanding the best way to upload PDF's to my site. I have read all the articles about using Media Picker and/or File uploads, but neither seem to do what I want.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
Did you find a solution to this? I'd like to be able to upload pdfs through the Media Picker property editor as well.
Hi,
Not yet, but I've got someone working on it who's got more talent than me! Will post solution when I have one.
Any update on this as I am in the same boat :-(
