    Upgrading from 4.11.5 to 7.4.3

Hi Umbracians / Olã los umbracioneros

Anyone ever attempted to upgrade a version 4.11.x to 7.x.x

    Would you even attempt?

Nice to know info : its a rather big umbraco solution with a total timespend around 4000 hrs of work over 4 years.

Around 15.000 content nodes and an early ucommerce installed

Hi Ole! I've never tried it, but it shouldn't be a problem, as long as you follow the specific upgrade instructions: https://our.umbraco.org/documentation/getting-started/setup/upgrading/version-specific

Tim Payne wrote a great article on Skrift about upgrading from old versions that I think you should check out: http://skrift.io/articles/archive/umbraco-upgrade-strategies/ (in this article he mentions that he upgraded a Umbraco v.4.7.2 and it worked)

Be aware however that you might not be able to upgrade directly to the latest version, but instead you need to follow a "upgrade path" which Lee Kelleher explains here: http://code.leekelleher.com/umbraco/archive/

Remember to backup everything and have some time set aside to really test everything after the upgrade is complete, since it sounds like a pretty big installation.

    Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the reply Dennis, found a similar answer on another thread - but was hoping that someone had their hands on a task like this, and that they had concluded something from their experience.

I went through the release plans and found 47 breaking changes, which gives me the creeps. Our solution also uses 3. party packages - which is another challenge with upgrading.

I am trying to figure out if upgrading is just to much trouble compared to rebuild on a new version.

Yeah, I get that. A rebuild on a new installation and exporting the old data to the new install could possobly be a better solution, maybe. I've never been introduced to that task before, so I can't say, but I would defenetly push for a rebuild.

Hope it works out for you, take care!

Thanks for your interest and support on the subject, I too lean more towards push for rebuild..
