Hi.
For the first time ever I'm actually sitting down and planning an Umbraco site rather than just following a tutorial or making it up as I go along. I'm making my first document type and it lead me to this question, is it good practice to have a base document type which every other document type inherits from?
I'm thinking I might make a base document type with the following properties:
Page Title
Page description
Keywords
Navigation title
Hide from Search
Hide from Nav
Then I'd add what I needed for homepage for example e.g. body text, main header image. etc.
Does this make sense? Have I missed anything obvious or would you suggest anything else to be added to the base?

Thanks David, that's a really useful article. It's exactly what I'm looking for. Something to talk about non-starter kit setups. :)
There used to be an Umbraco Docs page, but it got removed and not replaced a year or two back.
Pleased I could help
I guess one way I could look at it is install a seperate site with a starter kit and see what they have. :)
