Knowledge to have before starting Umbraco

    Noobie on the loose

I really want to start developing in Umbraco, but i am unsure if I should learn ASP.NET or something else before I start diving into Umbraco.

The only background knowledge I have at the moment, is PHP, HTML, CSS, a little javascript & jQuery, MySQL (phpmyadmin), Wordpress and other stuff like that. I code everything in Sublime Text and so forth.

So all of this ASP.NET and using Github and visual studio etc etc is REALLY confusing to me.

So... Where should i start? I found a tutorial on ASP.NET (step-by-step) that i could start with. Is this unwise or?

A book on ASP.NET MVC would be a good idea, and I'm sure you could find one that could give you an introduction to C# as well. You'll be using a lot of Razor syntax (any book on ASP.NET MVC will cover that).

You could also go through this online book on Umbraco 7: https://github.com/kgiszewski/LearnUmbraco7
