I am currently having trouble setting up a new content type, i am getting this error,
ive started with a blank umbraco. and i am new to this content management systems thing!!

Hmm, seems like there might be an issue with your installation - how did you install Umbraco? Did you grab it from codeplex and install it manually or did you install it using webmatrix or using the webpi?
If you installed it manually I think you should try to have a look at Sebastiaan Janssens blogpost here http://cultiv.nl/blog/2011/7/18/how-to-install-umbraco-manually/ to see if there is something that you might have missed.
I suspect this is probably a permission issue but a little more information would be nice.

thanks for this! i installed suing webmatrix, i simply created a new one and it has worked fine so i think it was the installation of it.
