I was asked by my company to install an Umbraco website and create a new skin for it based on our existing site, and was given until Friday to complete it. I have never even seen Umbraco before yesterday. Using WebMatrix I was able to get an Umbraco website up and running fairly quickly, and I understand most of the basic editing functions. Creating a skin me very confused however.
I created a folder under the /MasterPages folder, a skin.xm and a *.css file, which seems to be what I see the built in skin doing, and what the documents say to do.
Then the instructions say to view the Home page in Canvas mode, and that next to the publish/save buttons, there should be a Customize Skin button. I see the other buttons where I expect them to be, but the skin button is nowhere to be found???
I also tried looking in Developer | Packages | Installed Packages | Install Skin, butI don't see it listed there either.
How the heck do I get the Customize skin button to show up? What am I missing?
You say you already have an exiisting website. Leave the skin process as is. That's only when you want to reuse it over and over again. I would suggest to watch a few episodes on Umbraco.tv http://umbraco.com/help-and-support/video-tutorials/introduction-to-umbraco.aspx?freeVideos=1 first then you know how to create document types and templates these are the building blocks of you website so very important to know. Then convert your existing html to the templates and structure the site using Document types.
I don't see the icon to change skins?
