Cannot create or move nodes as expected

I am a new user to Umbraco. I created a site using the business template, and now I want to add new pages (nodes) to my home page. In the treeview is the root "Content" folder (node), and under that is folder (node) called "Business site" which appears to be my "Home" page.

When I right click on "Business site" and choose "create" I get the create dialog, however the Document Type dropdown is completely empty, so I can't create a new node at all. (If you don't select a document type, then the Create button never enables).

When I right-click on the Content node and choose create, I can create a new node as expected. But that new node doesn't show up as a Tab in the site because it is not under the Business site folder, which is Home. If I select the new node and choose "Move", then select the Business site node, it tells me I can't move my node there. The actual error message is "The current node is not allowed under the chosen node because of its type". The document type is a standard "Text" document.

Can someone please explain what I'm doing wrong?

If you go to the settings section you can see the document types. If you open a document type you can choose which document types are allowed on one of the tabs. Don't forget to save afterwards :).
