How to index PDFs (The Farm no longer supports Examine?)

First question, how are we supposed to index the text of a collection of PDF documents, files that are just on the web server and not related to Umbraco content? I see ancient discussions of theory all referencing information that no longer exists.

On a related note, what happed to The Farm? They appear to no longer support Umbraco Examine. Did someone adopt it or is it now a lost cause orphan and one more reason to start looking for a replacement for Umbraco?

    Hi Connie,

Have you seen the examine media indexer package?  I think it only works on media in the Umbraco media tree, but no idea if it can be extended or your project is flexible enough to move those assets 'inside' umbraco.  Thought it worth mentioning anyhow...

Interesting looking package, but for now, moving these PDFs into Umbraco is too time consuming and I don't like the fact you cannot group anything physically in media.  The folders are only useful within the Umbraco admin.

If Ismail ever releases his source code, I might be able to re-engineer it to index folders outside Umbraco.

The source code is available to download from the package page by the look of it.
