I'm asuming you're trying to insert the .swf file in a rich text content area but I think it would be easier if you could post some screendumps of the problems described above - that way it's easier to give you some proper input on what steps to try in order to get this working.
Adding .swf via CMS not working
Hi
I have an .swf that I would like to add to a page via the cms interface.
I select the file and add it ok - gives me the usual yellow panel with the flash symbol.
It doesn't show on the preview and if I publish it, it removes the movie from the page.
I am thinking that a plug-in of some sort is needed, even though there is an option to insert rich media?
I do not have access to the settings - this is pure cms.
I have tried adding .mov and interactive .pdf but all have the same effect.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Jan
Ok, first grab shows the media:
This grab shows the media inserted via embedded media:
The final one shows it inserted into the page:
Not worth showing you the previous or published, because there's nothing showing ;-)
Also, nothing shows in the html either.
Thanks
What version of Umbraco are you using? In 4.9 it should be easier to embed media: https://twitter.com/timgeyssens/status/233938943542960128. You can read here that it should be implemented: http://umbraco.com/follow-us/blog-archive/2012/9/7/introducing-umbraco-49-party-like-it%E2%80%99s-2004-just-bigger!.aspx.

Not sure how to find what version of Umbraco I am using? Any clues?
Nigel
If you press the about button on the top right you can see what version you're running.
Jeroen
Thanks, easy when you know how.... Version 4.7.1
Would this cause a problem with embedded .swf?
Thanks
Nigel
You can try to upgrade to 4.9 and see if that solves your problem.
Jeroen
Ok, that might be a problem as I am just the end-user.....
Does the upgrade need to be done by the developer of the website?
Nigel
Hi Jeroen
Can you tell me whether I can upgrade locally or does the website develop need to upgrade?
Thanks
Nigel
Upgrading is something the developer needs to do. You can do it locally first to test if the upgrade went ok. Then you can put it live.
