Page Titles are Too Long - Drawing on Root Directories

    Hello,

I am doing SEO for a client site that uses Umbraco (not sure which build but I think my question is arbitrary enough for it not to matter) and we have no FTP logins ergo no ability to edit the code (it's a global company and they protect their IP aggressively) so my only ability to edit the site is inside the CMS.

As it stands the pages are generating page titles that are structured "page name - subdirectory name - root name" and in the case of it being a page inside more than one directory it causes the page titles to be way too long for proper SEO purposes (not to mention it's just a drag).

I can't seem to be able to overwrite the process from in the CMS. On the "content" tab of the page in the back end it has the following fields.

    "Title: text box"

"Use Custom Sub title: Tick yes or no"

    "Subtitle: text box"

And these are the only fields that have anythign to do with titles. I have tried every combination of this but no matter what I do it always appears to just fall back on the original title structure. You would think there would be a way to just set the page title to be something simple right?

If this issue is only solvable in the code please let me know.

    HI Joe,

Umbraco doesn't generate anything by default and fields on document types are implementation specific also. So someone coded this in their templates. So you really should go back to the client and ask their implementation partner to change this.

    Cheers,

    Richard
