My IE has just been upgraded to IE11, and now the rich text editor is doing strange things - inserting all images & tables at the top of the content, and when trying to apply styles (or create a link) the cursor just jumps straight to the top of the content. The 2 sites that I have tested are Umbraco 6.1.6, and 4.8. These were previously working fine until the browser update.

Hi, yes, it is a known issue, please see here for further info and to vote for it be fixed ;-)
Currently only the Rich Text editor in Umbraco v7 is fully compatible with IE11
