Adding alternate element styles to tinymce

Hi Guys, apologies if this is a duplicate, I've not found the same question yet, but it seems like an pbvious one that's probably already been answered.

In short.. in tinymce, I need to add styles for multiple versions of tags. For example, I have to provide multiple versions of a h1 tag, a standard one, and an alternative one with different colouring. Am I right in thinking I can only have 1 h1 style, and my alternate style will just have to be a class that will be applied to a span? I can work with that but it's a bit of a blow to page structure.

I was hoping to be able to rig it so that the alternate style will create a h1 tag with a class applied to it.

Any help/advice on it would be great.

    Thanks!
