I'm looking to upgrade from v1.0 to v2.0.26. Has anyone done this
successfully or shall I forget about it? I'd really like to take care of the current comment spam issue on a client's v1 installation so the later versions and their Akismet etc integration definitely appeal. But it's not urgent so I don't want to create a headache for myself if the upgrade doesn't work properly and I have to restore from back-ups.
I tried this as an experiment and can categorically say the upgrade process does not work from v1 to v2 - don't do it or it'll be full file/database restoration time!
It's a shame an upgrade procedure wasn't one of the 2009 Christmas calendar updates as there's no easy way to import/export posts either, so if you're on v1 you're pretty much stuck there at the moment unless you can hack the upgrade.
Has anything changed here? i'm in the same situation where i want to upgrade a blog from version 1.0.0 to a more recent version with anti-spam functionality
