How long will it be before uCommerce will be integrated with Umbraco v5?
Im about to start a new project and was going to use Umbraco v5 but I was also going to use uCommerce but dont want to get a site built out and then not be able to add eCommerce!
We're pretty close to completing the Umbraco 5 integration, but there's still some work to be done to get a nice installer put together. I expect that we'll be ready to ship during Q1.
uCommerce 3 will work with both Umbraco 4 and 5, which means new features will be available for both. In other words you won't lose out on features if you do decide to go with Umbraco 4 now.
Do you have any idea when in Q1 uCommerce3 will be ready? Q1 is three months, just started with february :) Should I expect it this month or at the end of march? Two months makes a difference in my project ;)
Whenever I say a date it invariably ends up not being right, so I hope you understand why I'm hesitant to give out specific dates. Suffice it to say that a beta is creeping ever closer. Expect information on that soon.
uCommerce 3 retains the LINQ based data access strategy from previous versions. Developers seem to find this way of querying catalogs and transactions pretty intuitive so we didn't want to mess around with it. Also it's a match made in heaven for Razor :)
An added benefit is that code written against uCommerce 2 will work with 3 as well (for the most part; some areas like the UI integration had to be changed to accommodate Umbraco 5).

Hi Soren,
Thanks for the reply. Looks like running with v4 for now then as this new site will probably be lanching mid feb.
Looking forward to v5 and v3 uCommerce. Want to get back to the MVC after learning it a whle back then having to go backwards to utilise umbraco.
Thanks
Damian

Hi Bart,
We will not be ready with anything in February. Sorry.
Hi Soren!
Are you any closer with the new release? I am about to start building out a new site...
Also - out of interest - have you built the new integration as a uCommerce umbraco hive provider?
Thanks
Damian

Hey we all work in software development so I undestand that point perfectly :)
I'll start building out with u4 and look to u5 and uc3 when they are both in the wild.
I'll look forward to it.
Thanks for the update Soren,
Damian
Wonderful. Appreciate your understanding in this.
Hi Soren,
I keep seeing tweets about UC3 and a beta was v close. Any update on when it will be released?
Thanks
Damian
Hi Damin,
Indeed it is. The alpha has been issued to a couple of partners.
The last feature and a half are being implemented right now.
Let me know if you're intested in taking it for a spin.
Yes - would definitely be up for checking it out.
Let me know how.
Thanks
Damian
Shoot me a mail at ssl AT ucommerce DOT dk
I'll include you in the next release cycle (which will be a beta BTW).
